Parish Eucharistic Adoration is a devotion whereby members of a parish unite in making continuous adoration before the Most Blessed Sacrament for as many hours as may be possible based on the number of people who pledge to do a weekly Holy Hour when the programme is presented at masses over a Sunday.

Contemplative in Nature

The devotion of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration is contemplative in nature and is directed to the sanctification of its members.

How does Eucharistic Adoration Work?

There are 9 keys to establishing and maintaining Eucharistic Adoration in parishes

  • Prayer must precede and follow everything to do with Adoration.
  • Meeting the Parish Priest and a few key people in the parish 3 weeks prior to presentation at masses.
  • The setting up a parish lay team or committee trained by our Diocesan Team, to organise and maintain Adoration in the parish
  • A Presentation (7 to 8 minutes) in the churches of the parish at all Sunday masses given by a trained person(s) from the National or Diocesan committee.
  • The objective of the presentation at masses is to explain Eucharistic Adoration and to get parishioners to commit to spending time in Adoration each week, and also to seek volunteers to assist with this work.
  • Following the appeal at Sunday masses, a roster of Adoration in line with the commitment by parishioners to spend time in Adoration each week is drawn up, At least 4 people per hour is best practice.
  • The week after presentation (usually Wednesday evening) volunteers meet to elect a lay committee to set up and maintain the Adoration roster in line with the response of parishioners. The National or Diocesan Team assists with this meeting also.
  • The ongoing work of the parish team or committee in ensuring that the Adoration roster is maintained over time.
  • Adoration may benefit from a suitable room in the parish if the church is very large and does not have a side chapel suitable for Adoration.
